Azure - FinOps Platform

Unit Economics

Enter a single business metric (e.g. approximate monthly transaction count, or active customer count) to see your spend expressed per unit, alongside the raw total. Azure - FinOps Platform has no visibility into your own business metrics — this value is entered and stored only in this deployment's own database, never derived from Azure data.

Business metric

One customer-entered business measure for the same 30-day window as the displayed Azure cost; never derived from Azure data.
Why this matters

Keep the metric definition consistent between saves — swapping from 'active customers' to 'transactions' partway through breaks the trend charts below, which assume a continuous series of the same unit.

e.g. "transactions", "active customers"

Cost per unit

Divides the 30-day Azure spend total by the saved business-metric value for the same window.
last 30 days
Why this matters

Cost per unit only means something if the metric and the spend window genuinely correspond — a metric counted over a different period than 30 days will silently misstate this ratio.

Total spend (last 30 days) 170.04 USD
Cost per active users 0.04 USD

Metric value over saved entries

Plots the raw saved metric value from each history entry, most recent last; capped to 10 entries.
2 saved entries
Why this matters

A metric value that jumps sharply between saves usually means the underlying business count changed, not that Azure spend did — check this chart before reading too much into a cost-per-unit swing.

Cost per unit over time

Plots computed cost-per-unit (spend total ÷ metric value) for each saved entry where both values were available; an entry with a zero or missing metric value is excluded, not plotted as zero.
2 entries with a computable cost-per-unit
Why this matters

A rising cost-per-unit alongside flat business volume points to spend growing faster than the business — cross-check against Cost Allocation or Recommendations for where that growth is coming from.

Change since previous save

Compares the latest cost per unit with the previous computable saved entry.
Why this matters

This compares only the two most recent qualifying entries — a single noisy save can produce a large swing here even if the underlying trend is stable. Check the trend chart above before reacting to one gauge reading.

Cost-per-active users change vs. this metric's immediately prior saved entry.

Cost per business dimension

Divides each business dimension's real, already-allocated 30-day Azure cost (from Cost Allocation's tag-based grouping) by a business-metric value you enter for that dimension — explicit cost attribution, not division of an unrelated total.

Why this matters

Enter a metric value for each dimension value below (e.g. how many transactions 'checkout' handled) to see that dimension's own cost per unit, using its own real allocated cost.
